New nurse practitioner brings decades of mental healthcare experience to patients

Corinth area residents now have access to expanded mental health services with the addition of a new nurse practitioner at Right Track Medical Group.

Elizabeth Duncan, RN, MSN, FNP-BC, APMHNP-BC, joined Right Track Medical Group in January after more than 15 years of mental healthcare experience in outpatient and crisis stabilization settings.

“I’m excited to be a part of Right Track Medical Group,” Duncan said. “I love their practice of seeing patients within a day. I want to help people in Corinth address mental health concerns the same way they would address any other health issue.”

Duncan says that while there has been some change in the stigma around mental health since she began her career, the lack of providers and insurance coverage remains a barrier for many.

“Access to care can be very difficult for people,” Duncan said. “At my previous job, I was booked out for three months, and many people cannot afford to wait that long.”

I’m excited about helping people in the Corinth community have a better today and tomorrow.

Duncan says common mental health needs, such as depression and anxiety, can be caused by everyday stressors like finances, school or work. However, if these issues are not dealt with, they can cause harm over time.

“Oftentimes, if individuals can discuss this with someone or go on medication for a short period of time, they see tremendous improvement,” she said.

Duncan recently relocated to Batesville with her husband. She attends Oasis Church in Oxford, where she helped launch the Women’s Ministry.

As a lifelong Mississippian, Duncan understands the unique needs of North Mississippi and has a vested interest in making sure patients have access to the mental healthcare they deserve.

“I’m excited about helping people in the Corinth community have a better today and tomorrow,” she said.
